Proudly Part Of The Community Of Sydney Catholic Schools

Why choose us?

St Mel’s Catholic Primary School Campsie is a thriving community in which children are taught how to learn in order for them to decide what type of learning is most meaningful and purposeful in their lives. We call this ‘Organic Learning’.

Our students become problem finders and problem solvers, and develop the confidence to control their own learning and grow their awareness of self and others. In this way, they not only achieve their academic potential but become well-rounded individuals, highly equipped to make a difference in the world.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the vibrant, multicultural community of St Mel’s Catholic Primary School, Campsie where we grow learners who change the world!

St Mel’s is an innovative school, implementing an Organic Learning pedagogical framework that caters for all students. Partnered with our inclusive and diverse community, our faith centric values ensure all students are enriched and have the opportunity to excel.

At St Mel’s we work in partnership with our Parish community, parents and students to cultivate a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages all children to make a difference in the world around them. We are a Christ-centred community founded on the Josephite tradition of, ‘Never see a need without doing something about it’. Students are encouraged to be global citizens and active in their outreach toward others. At St Mel’s we are passionate about working collaboratively together to bring alive our school values of: Trust, Cooperation, Love, Faith, Harmony and Respect.

Excellent Teaching and Learning

St Mel’s has an outstanding reputation, locally and nationally. We have high expectations of learners and place students at the centre of all we do. We are blessed with staff that are committed life-long learners, dedicated to sharing best practice to make a positive difference in the academic and social-emotional lives of our students. We are blessed with a community who foster a growth mindset; our parents are aspirational, wanting the best educational outcomes for their child. Our teachers know and understand each child’s individual strengths and interests and seek ways to inspire and challenge learning from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Organic Learning

At St Mel’s we are Organic Learners and follow the Organic Learning Cycle. Organic learning is purposeful, engaging and allows for creativity. It invigorates a learning culture of empathy, curiosity and self-determination. Our students are immersed in real-life authentic experiences that teach them to think divergently, generate ideas to solve problems and use the knowledge and skills they have been taught in everyday experiences. They are empowered to make an impact on the world around them.

Extensive Playground Spaces

St Mel’s is fortunate to have generous playground spaces for students to explore and develop their social skills. We offer a range of lunchtime clubs and activities which support the wellbeing of students.

I welcome all families to the St Mel’s community. We are on a journey together, working collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for your child. I am certain that your time here at our school will be a joyous one, filled with wonderful memories that you and your child will cherish.

Yours sincerely,

Ms Elena Mullen
Principal

History
2023-St-Mel's-Catholic-Primary-School-Campsie.-About-us---Our-HistorySt Mel’s was originally established as St Anthony’s Canterbury in 1895 by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan. Sr Francis Goold was the founding principal. In 1900, the school was taken over by the Sisters of St Joseph.

In 1915, the parish of St Mel’s Campsie was established, with Fr Kenny as Parish Priest. At this time the school was moved from Canterbury to our present site in Duke Street, Campsie. By 1917, the Sisters of St Joseph had established a convent onsite. They continued to lead the school until 1985, whereby Mr William (Bill) White was appointed the first lay principal at St Mel’s Campsie.

Charism
Inspired by the spirit of St Mel, the nephew of St Patrick, our community strives to continue his mission of love and commitment to Catholic Education.

Through the example of St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, students are called to be people of action and believe they have the capacity to change the world.

The Josephite charism and our school values enliven and strengthen our community to ‘never see a need without doing something about it.’
