Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.

First and foremost, outreach at St Mel’s is linked to organic learning units as a way for our students to have a purposeful impact and ‘change the world’. Through these experiences, children learn to ‘see a need and do something about it’, which enhances their capacity to find and solve problems.

Our Mini Vinnies committee hosts regular school fundraising events to raise funds and other necessary items for those less fortunate than themselves. Our parent volunteers also play a valuable role in outreach programs, helping to stock the night patrol van at regular intervals throughout the year.
